Origin[]
The Trashman was a 58-foot long sailing yacht that made routine transits between Maine and Florida. In October of 1982, the Trashman hit an unexpected patch of heavy weather off the Carolina coast. The ship sank and the five crew members got into their 11-foot Zodiac lifeboat. The first two became delusional after drinking seawater and swam away to be eaten by sharks; the third died from infected wounds. The remaining two were rescued by a passing cargo ship and returned to the US authorities.
Effects[]
People who touch the boat while in water become extremely buoyant for 18 hours. Failure to maintain contact with the boat at all moments within this time frame, however, will upset this buoyancy. Victims who let go of the boat will become more buoyant in their lower extremities, forcing the swimming person to flip upside down and, if not pulled from the water, drown.
