Origin[]

According to Roman mythology, Vulcan is the god of fire, metalworking and the forge, often depicted with a blacksmith's hammer. Although his Greek counterpart Hephaestus was also a metalworker, Vulcan was more closely connected with the destructive capabilities of fire. Vulcan was firstly worshipped with sacrificial fires to prevent upsetting him and causing destruction to the crops.

Unlike his beautiful siblings, he appeared red and small when born, scaring his mother Juno into throwing him off Olympus. He injured his leg and was rescued by the sea nymph Thetis, who took him underwater and raised him. Vulcan eventually discovered a fisherman's fire, and brought it home in fascination. He quickly discovered his skill at forging metal and crafted some of the finest pieces, eventually attracting Juno's attention. He refused her offer to return and instead sent a magnificient chair to her instead. She was immediatly grabbed by hidden springs and locked in place for three days. Jupiter himself had to request for Juno's release; in exchange, Vulcan was allowed to marry Venus, godess of love and beauty. After the approval, Vulcan built a workplace under Mt. Etna; anytime Venus proved unfaithful, Vulcan would furiously beat hi hammer until the mountain above him exploded in an eruption.

Effects[]
