Origin[]
Virginia Eliza Clemm Poe was Edgar Allan Poe’s wife and first cousin. Although their marriage was loving, their relationship was closer to brother and sister. Several years after they married, Edgar became involved in a love scandal with two other poets. At the same time, Virginia was suffering from tuberculosis. The Poes moved out of Philadelphia to nearby Fordham, where Virginia was comforted for five years until she passed away. Her death strongly changed Edgar, as he became an alcoholic and placed dying young women in many of his later stories.
Effects[]
The comforter is activated when someone married to a relative touches it. Their spouse will become involved in an adulterous public affair that will disgrace them. Meanwhile, the user will develop tuberculosis and quickly weaken from it. The disease and affair will lead the user’s spouse to alcohol, drugs and depression.
