The song "The Twelve Days of Christmas" is a traditional English (or French) Christmas carol, known for its cumulative lyrics describing a series of gift-giving by the singer's "true love" over the course of twelve days. The song as it is known today was adapted from 18th century lyrics, and the famous tune was scored by Frederic Austin.
The gifts listed during the song have been interpreted and translated in a variety of ways, but there is a general consensus that the first gift is a partridge bird in a pear tree.

This artifact is a perpetually blossoming, well-kept pear tree. If touched by anyone, the tree entices the individual's love interest to become expressly more romantic towards the individual. Everyday for twelve days after activation, the afflicted lover grows more obsessed with pleasing the user, and cannot be dissuaded by anyone other than the user.
Twelve days of this proves to be too taxing on the average human, and if not already driven mad through lovesick behavior, "true loves" may suffer from hormonal overstimulation and perish. This can be averted, however, if the user manages to successively convince the lover that the first does not care at all for the latter by the twelfth day.
