Origin

Tupac Shakur, also known by his stage names 2Pac and Makaveli, was one of the most famous rappers of the 1990s. His experience with violence, racism and inner city hardship helped him write and perform songs that captivated listeners. Outside of his rap life he possessed a rap sheet, spanning several incidents of assault and shootings, resulting in his imprisonment in 1995. It was around this time Tupac was caught up in the east-west coast rivalry between major hip-hop record labels. His, Death Row Records in Los Angeles, was at times largely in competition with New York’s Bad Boy Records, owned by The Notorious B.I.G. He was killed in 1996 in a targeted drive by shooting, possibly by a local gang for revenge. His albums were some of the best selling in the United States and he is now regarded as one of the greatest rappers to live.
