Origin[]
Thomas J. Smith (1840-1870) was a law marshal who served in several towns and cities before finally becoming the marshal of Abilene, Kansas. He grew up in New York City, where he grew up to be a professional middleweight boxer before joining the city's police force. He was involved in the accidental death of a 14 year old boy with a gun while on the force, and although he wasn't charged with any crime, the event bothered him, and he left the police force and joined the Union Pacific Railroad in 1868. When he became the marshal of Abilene in June 1970, which at the time was in desperate need of law and order, he banned all guns in the town without a permit. Anyone who tried to pick a fight with him he would punch, quickly knocking out any opponent of his, including those who tried to pull a gun on him. He survived two assassination attempts before being killed by two men who he was trying to arrest on a murder charge.
Effects[]
Smith's badge absorbed his fearless nature and quick punch. Anyone who wears the badge gains the ability to throw a quick punch and knock out people causing trouble. The user is attracted to people who are using guns to cause trouble, and will attempt to disarm them. Each successful use of the artifact lessens the fear the user feels until they become fearless.
