Origin[]

Theodosius of Bythinia (c. 169 BC - c. 100 BC) was a Greek astronomer and mathemetician credited with the invention of the first sundial that could accurately keep time no matter where on the planet it was located.

Effects[]

If used at a certain place on the planet, the sundial can alter the user's time continuum to always be the time the user sets when activated at that specific place. So no matter where they are on the planet, it will always be the time they set on the sundial. User may also feel less tired and sleep less often, leading to insomnia.

The sundial also acts as a battery for chronetic and temporal energy. Historically it was used to siphon, and sometimes charge, other artifacts with time-related effects.

After being overcharged with energy as a result of being used to power Paracelsus' time travel, the sundial exhibited a unique one-off effect. When the excess was attempted to be discharged from the sundial, it radiated a colossal amount of temporal energy. This affected three agents, transporting them into isolated temporal bubbles of history. Perhaps due to some intermingling with Well's machine, the agents took the places of individuals related to the events, which seemed to be related to nearby artifacts caught in the disturbance.

As historical records of the events play out in different ways, it is presumed that as opposed to proper time travel the sundial merely created "pocket dimension" timelines disconnected from our established reality. These "pockets" were escaped from by the agents by identifying and making contact with objects present in or that influenced events, thus "completing the circuit" and returning them to their original place in the official timeline. This effect has not been reproduced, and the excess energy in the sundial was spent.

Temporal energy output usually will activate through proximity, however, the sundials original effects may be induced through touching.

History[]

In 2012, the sundial was combined by Paracelsus with Karl Schwarzchild's Pocket Watch, Pierre-Simon Laplace's Telescope, and H.G. Well's Time Machine to create a wormhole that acted as a fully-functioning time machine that would allow him to alter the events of history and change the future. He used this to travel back to the day he was originally Bronzed by agents of Warehouse 9 on June 10th, 1541 and attempt to kill the Regents of the time and establish himself as a permanent Caretaker for all future Warehouses.

Soon after his efforts were thwarted and he was re-Bronzed, agent Steve Jinks was tasked with draining the sundial's chronetic energy, and was accompanied by Claudia Donovan and Nikki Nola. Unaware of the artifact having been supercharged by Paracelsus' use, the sundial exhibited a unique, one-time effect: it released a colossal amount of temporal energy that transported them each into isolated bubbles of history. Perhaps due to some intermingling with Well's machine, the agents took the places of individuals related to the events, which seemed to be related to nearby artifacts caught in the disturbance. The three agents progressed through their individual time bubbles until they made contact with objects they had previously touched before the sundial activated, and they were returned to the official timeline.
