Origin[]
Stephen Hillenburg is a marine biologist and cartoonist and creator of SpongeBob SquarePants. In 1997, while pitching the cartoon to Nickelodeon executives, Hillenburg donned a Hawaiian shirt, brought along an "underwater terrarium with models of the characters", and played Hawaiian music to set the theme. The setup was described by Nickelodeon executive Eric Coleman as "pretty amazing".
After the first film, as Hillenburg intended it to be the series finale, Nickelodeon wished to continue the show. Hillenburg then handed the show over to another writer, and since then the series has faced a significant decline in quality.
Effects[]
When worn, the shirt instills the wearer with a love for marine biology. However, wearers will eventually abandon many things that they were previously involved in, often leading to bad results.
