Origin[]
The origins of the artifact are directly tied to its collection. In 1968 an armed individual attempted to rob the Posthaste General Store in Posthaste, Virginia, a small town of 240. The owner, Frank Barska, and his wife Abigail refused to open the safe as it contained their life savings. Enraged, the robber opened fire on Abigail, only for the artifact to manifest for the first time.
A barrier of debris ripped itself from the foundations to encircle her and the safe. The bullets crumpled against a wall of cement, although the resulting structural damage to the building caused it to collapse. Frank was instantly killed, though the assailant survived. The account was recovered from the robber by police while he was hospitalized in the neighboring town, where he eventually died of severe internal injuries before the agent Northmoor arrived.
Abigail was found under the debris, still encased in the cocoon of wood and concrete. It was later determined he suffocated, as the artifact refused to dispel the shield while she was trapped under the ruins of her store. The safe was collected, though its effects were once again displayed when an attempt was made to open it.
Ezekiel Northmoor was en route to the Warehouse with the safe when he was ensnared by Jhamil Haddir's Ashtray, only being recovered by agents Lattimer and Bering in 2014.
Effects[]
When the safe, anyone who has a valid claim to the contents of the safe, or anyone who knows the combination to the safe is under direct threat of harm, a cocoon of debris is pulled from the surrounding area to encase them. This can be formed from earth, construction materials and even loose objects if available, but never living organisms. This effects cannot be consciously controlled, and the barrier will not dissipate until the threat has passed.
As there are currently no living individuals who know the combination, nor did the original owners have any family to pass their belongings on to, the safe only activates when it feels threatened itself. Because of this, all attempts to open it via more direct means have thus far failed. Current attempts to crack the safe may be attempted upon request, provided it takes place far from any standing structure.
