Origin[]
Rudolph Valentino, nicknamed The Latin Lover, was an Italian actor based in the United States who starred in several well-known silent films including The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, The Sheik, Blood and Sand, The Eagle, and The Son of the Sheik. Many of these films were noted for extravagant costumes and heavy makeup, and all highlighted Valentino’s exotic—if at times sexually ambiguous—good looks. Multiple lovers and divorces gained him a reputation among women as a heartthrob and a despisal among men for his vice-laden ways and appearance. His early death at the age of 31 caused mass hysteria among his fans, further cementing his place in early cinematic history as a cultural film icon.
A tiger’s eye ring from a San Francisco shop caught Valentino’s fancy, even to the seller’s warning it was cursed and only brought misery to past owners. He wore it everyday of filming The Young Rajah, the first financial and critical failure of his career. After wearing it again for another stint, Valentino collapsed in the streets from appendicitis and ulcers, succumbing days later to surgical complications. The ring was passed onto his current lover, who became sick enough to halt her acting career. Recipients afterwards would eerily experience incidents like shootings, blood-borne sickness and robberies. Some even believe Valentino’s spirit lounges around his burial site with his dog. Last recorded as secured inside a bank vault, it remains lost to the general public.
Effects[]
Afflicts one with misfortune that continues to follow them until grievously injured or killed. Brings about roadblocks to damage one's finances, reputation, health and more. If none cause lasting harm, they will reappear with a new threat days or weeks after. Transferring the ring to another causes the recipient to become the target, leaving the past owner to wallow in their accumulated misfortune.
