Origins[]

Roald Dahl (1916-1990) was a British children's author, famous for penning works such as Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Matilda, The Witches, and many more. He is regarding as the most prolific children's book author of all time, with several documentaries made on his life, as well as, numerous TV specials and movies made based on his stories.

In 1959, he begin writing a story based on a thought he had one day while walking through his garden. That particular day, Dahl happened spot a cherry tree that just come into bloom, and though, "What if the cherry had just growing and never stopped!" He proceeded to take a dozen or so cherries from the tree and pitted them, placing the seeds in his work shed. Over the next 2 years, Dahl struggled to complete the story due to this being his first book for children. During those 2 years, Dahl had changed the cherries to multiple fruits, including apples, pears, and oranges, before settling on a peach. Along with his struggles, his creativity and dreams of the story imbued the cherry seeds with the ability to rapidly enlarge any nearby food.

The story focused on a young boy named James living with his two tyrannical aunts, Sponge and Spiker. One day, he meets a mysterious old man who gives him "Crocodile Tongues." However, one manages to get away from James and embeds itself into a peach that had grown the day prior. After discovering the growing peach, the aunts decide to make a side-show attraction of it, saddening James, who is forbidden from even going near the peach.. That night, while picking up trash around the peach on the orders of his aunts, James manages to get inside the peach and discovers human-sized insects living within it.

After escaping from his aunts, who pursue the peach from location to location, James and the insects proceed to find themselves in one adventure after another, including tying 501 seagulls to the peach in order to make it fly. They eventually make it to New York City, where locals think it is a bomb and order to evacuate. James eventually manages to calm down to the population by recounting his story.
