Origin[]
Prudence Laverlong was a loom operator residing in Lowell, Massachusetts during the textiles heyday of the region in the 1880s. After starting there at the age of 16, she remained as a factory worker for 15 years. This was unusual as most young girls lasted only four years on average before moving back home or searching for new work. Her keen vision, handiness at navigating the threading apparatus and warmness to mentor the younger girls at the boardinghouse and factory floor inclined the mill owners to retain her.
At the inn, no resident would be allowed to neglect themselves socially by lack of manners. She instructed on proper work behavior, money-keeping and discussion to learn as an independent. Multiple of her wards went on to stay in the New England area as entrusted workplace role models and moral paragons. As a thank you tradition, many would send a china doll to Laverlong for her collection when they believed they had finally matured into an independent woman.
Mentioned in an artifact tag lot from the episode “Fractures” .
Effects[]
Increases vision and manual dexterity to do great amounts of detailed precision work without strain or mistake. Causes one to dedicate their energies to teaching their subordinates with zeal if they are already inclined to be a mentoring type. Will often push others to become better and eventually move to better opportunities with training.
The opposite happens for the owner – they remain tied down to their current town. Attempting to leave the border only pushes them away with each try. Only traveling to their home city if its separate from their workplace has any effect.
