Origin[]
The Piri Reis Map is a world map compiled in 1513 from military intelligence by the Ottoman admiral and cartographer Piri Reis. Along with the Ottoman-Turkish areas he received details from Christopher Columbus of the western lands. In 1520 the map was lost but discovered again in 1929, however the map was only one third complete. The parts depicted on this fragment is of the Central and South American coast. The map was stolen enroute to the Library of the Topkapi Palace and reunited with the remaining two thirds containing the rest of the world.
