Origin[]
Paul Warren Fairman (1916 – 1977) was an editor and writer in a variety of genres under his own name and under pseudonyms. Out of all of his stories the favorite of his was 'The Cosmic Frame'. The plot of the story was about a flying saucer crash landing in the woods and an opportunistic man tries to steal the dead pilot in order to make money off it. Angered the other aliens arrive on earth and attack the man, framing some local kids for killing the man. Finally the dead alien's hand fell off becoming sentient battling against the military.
When asked Fairman said that he just loved coming up with a new race of creatures that could do anything he wanted. After writing it he submitted the story to be publish only to have it become the inspiration for a motion picture called Invasion of the Saucer Men. So excited Fairman believed that he could write gold when it came writing in his chair. When he took left Ziff-Davis (his editorial job) he paid to take the chair with him. All of his optimism was imbued into the chair turning it into an artifact.
