Origin[]
I, Libertine started out as a literary hoax novel by late-night radio raconteur Jean Shepherd. Shepherd was annoyed at the way the bestseller lists were being compiled in the mid 1950s. These lists came from sales figures and not from how important of an impact that the books had. Fabricating the author, Frederick R Ewing, he urged his listeners to go into book stores and demand for the book making it so widely demanded that even without being created yet it landed on the New York Times Best Seller List. Eventually Shepherd met up with a real writer, Theodore Sturgeon, and a publisher (Ian Ballatine) who agreed to come up with the actual book to sell with all proceedings going to charity.
Effects[]
When read the reader only speaks in riddles until the book is neutralized.
