Origin[]
The idiom "to sweep under the carpet" means to hide something negative or embarassing rather than deal with it immediately, if at all, and was first recorded in 1953.
Effects[]
When in the vicinity of negativity of any kind, the carpet will convert that negativity into physical dust, appearing to be sucked from the person or persons experiencing the negativty. This dust will be literally swept underneath the carpet and leave the person(s) it was pulled from feeling relieved of their negativity.
Continuous use of the carpet promotes unhealthy ways to deal with one's problems, such as addiction and self-harm. When the carpet or even just a portion is pulled up, the dust collected will release itself as a cloud and fill those nearby with all the negativity at once, often leading to emotional and/or physical outbursts.
This artifact tends to draw itself towards unhealthy relationships, and dust collected from such situations appear to be larger and denser than from other sources.
