Mr. Freeze is a supervillain from the DC universe. His first appearance was in Batman #121 (February 1959), originally called Mr. Zero. He is listed by IGN as #67 of the Top 100 Comic Book Villains of All Time.

Versions of the character include Arnold Schwarzenegger in Batman and Robin and one of the best known presentations in Batman :The Animated Series episode "Heart of Ice", winning an Emmy for Outstanding Writing in an Animated Program. Mr. Freeze's identity was Victor Fries, who as a child freezed animals, prompting his parents to send him to boarding school. During college, he met a woman named Nora, who he falls in love with and ultimately marries.

Afterwards, his wife contracted a terminal illness that could not be cure. Since he was a scientist and worked for a cryogenics company, he stole money from the company to try and freeze her until a cure could be discovered. However, the CEO found out about his experiment and terminated it, leaving his wife to perish and pushing Fries into a mixture of chemicals. He was mutated to where his body could not survive outside subzero cold and lost emotions as well. He partly blamed Batman for not letting himself punish the CEO and has relentlessly tried to revive his wife.

His weapons include his mind, his cryo-suit that lets him survive, giving him superhuman strength and endurance and his freeze gun. The gun when fired sprays out a blast of cold that will quickly freeze anything it comes in contact with. The downside is that anybody who repeatedly uses it loses the capability of feeling emotion.
