Biography

Life Before the Warehouse

Metrodora Xenia (December 30, 780 - September 9, 1276), TBA

Shortly before Warehouse 5 was moved from the Byzantine Empire, its Regents scouted the country for a viable Caretaker for the following iteration. They eventually found and inquired Metrodora about taking on the role, and although she did not entirely grasp the full scope of what was being asked of her, she felt it was her obligation to accept it, and agreed.

Warehouse Career

Although she agreed to become the Caretaker and di her best in her leadership position, Metrodora struggled. Being taken away from her old country to one where no one else could speak her language, and leaving behind everyone she had ever known, was hard on her heart. She regularly struggled with her duties in her early years, but slowly learned how to handle them. Despite these difficulties, however, Metrodora felt retiring and giving her position to someone else was irresponsible, and that it was her duty to stay with the Warehouse as long as necessary.

Over her first hundred years as Caretaker, though, Metrodora grew increasingly lonely, and sunk into a depression. Slowly, even the Regents who had hired her passed away and were replaced with new faces that did not know her beyond the records their predecessors kept of her recruitment. These Regents, for the most part, kept to themselves, except two: Son Kosal, a soft-spoken but talented writer with experience assisting politicians and royalty with diplomatic affairs and public speeches, hired for his abilities to consider multiple sides or parties of an argument, resolve problems, and interpersonal skills; and Vanna Toch, a poor but charitable and outgoing man who regularly donated his money and possessions to others, hired for his kidness and insight into the marginalized and underprivelaged.

Trivia

  • Metrodora is named for one of three sister martyrs who lived together in a remote location, choosing to not marry and "forsake the world".
  • Xenia is the ancient Greek sacred rule of hospitality, the generosity and courtesy shown to those far from home.
  • Being born December 30, she is a Capricorn:
    • The constellation is said to be ruled by the planet Saturn, the Roman name of the Titan of the harvest, Cronus/Kronos.
    • In some cases the constellation is instead identified with the sea-goat Pricus, who was created by Kronos and shared his ability to manipulate time. He had many children, all sea-goats, who would travel to land and instantly lose their tails and their ability to speak and think. To prevent this, he turned back time again and again, but eventually resigned himself to loneliness. Learning he cannot change their fate and not wanting to be the only sea-goat, he asks Kronos to kill him, but as he cannot die he is instead placed among the stars as the constellation Capricornus.
