Mel Fisher (1922 - 1998) was an American treasure hunter best known for finding the 1622 wreck of the Nuestra Senora de Atocha. The ship had been lost when hit by a hurricane the area it was in, a second hurricane made it impossible for divers to locate the wreckage at the time.
