Jean Baptiste Lully was a music composer working for King Louis XIV of France. In January 1687 Lully was conducting "Te Deum" after Louis XIV recovery from an illness. Back then music conductors uses large staffs which they would hit against the floor when beating time for the music. When Lully was conducting he struck his toe which developed an abscess and then turned gangrenous. By March he died from the wound.
