OriginEdit

Luigi Galleani (1861 - 1931) was an Italian anarchist active in the United States from 1901 to 1919 and was viewed as an insurrectionary anarchist. Galleani's followers carried out a series of bombings and assassination attempts against institutions and persons they viewed as class enemies.

When he was deported to Italy his colleagues carried out the Wall Street bombing of 1920, killing thirty eight people, injuring one hundred and forty three. At noon, a horse-drawn wagon stopped in front of the J.P. Morgan bank at 23 Wall Street, on the Financial District's busiest corner. Inside the wagon was one hundred pounds of dynamite with five hundred pounds of heavy, cast-iron weights. The horse and wagon soon exploded causing massive damage to the area.
