OriginEdit

Loukas Notaras (1402-1453) was the last Megas Doux (commander-in-chief) of the Byzantine Empire, as it was expanded under the late Palaiologid emperors and functioned as an unofficial Prime Minister.

He was thought to have been against the Union of Churches under the Florentine council because of his famous phrase, "I would rather see a Turkish turban in the midst of [Constantinople] than the Latin mitre." Present during the 1453 Siege of Constantinople, Notaras and his family were captured by the Turks and executed; some stories say Notaras refused to give his son Mehmed the Conqueror, while others propose Notaras had attempted to bribe Mehmed with Byzantine treasury money, who viewed the act as treason.

EffectsEdit

Imbued with the reprecussions of his political neutrality, Notaras' turban now redirects nearby physical threats towards the wearer so long as the user is alive.
