Origin[edit | edit source]

Lord Byron was a poet who led the Romantic Movement, with his most popular poems being Don Juan, Childe Harold's Pilgrimage and She Walks in Beauty. He traveled throughout Europe and in particular Italy and later Greece, where he fought in the Greek War of Independence against the Ottomans.

Lord Byron was known in his lifetime for aristocratic extravagance and scandals, including large debts, love affairs with various men and women and self-imposed exile. His complicated life led to the creation of the term byronic hero, better recognized today with anti-hero.

Many of his early romantic interests failed, partly due to the lack of interest of the other party. The revelations of these one-sided pinings were, in his own words, " like a thunder-stroke – it nearly choked me". At some point his cloak ended up in the hands of Lady Caroline Lamb who, after he broke off their extramarital relationship, grew deeply obsessed with him to the detriment of her health.

Collection[edit | edit source]

It was originally found in a museum in Genoa until Gloria Von Dichi stole it and replaced it with the Mask of Anubis to tease H.A.R.P. agents on their inability to keep up with her movements.

Effects[edit | edit source]

Activated by proximity to pining, the cloak intensifies feelings of love and desire towards those the affected is romantically interested in. The effects become amplified to a dangerous and obsessive degree if the love is unrequited, leading to stalking, harassment and jealous outbursts.

If the affected obtains the object of their desire they will lose all inhibitions in acting their will. This can be dangerous when applied to illicit substances or promiscuous activity. If the affected is able to come to terms with the fact that their feelings are not returned they will experience a shock to the body and, if they survive, will no longer be affected.
