OriginEdit

Fergus Mor mac Eirc was the legendary king of Dal Riata. Eirc is the founder of Scotland in the national myth of Medieval and Renaissance Scotland, rulers from Scotland claim descent from Fergus Mor. Fergus grew up in exile in Scandinavia. As an adult he fought with the Franks, a Germanic tribe, returning to and taking back Scotland from Picts. In a final battle where his men reported seeing him hurling boulders at the foes he was ambushed by Durstus, king of the Picts and was killed. As a Martyr figure Fergus' influence and the leadership of his son, Eugenius, the last of the Picts were pushed out of Scotland.
