Origin[]
Kurt Cobain (1967 - 1994) was an American musician, artist, songwriter, guitarist and poet. In 1987 Cobain formed the band Nirvana in Seattle, Washington bringing in a new style of music called grunge. It wasn't until the second album, Nevermind (1991), when the band came into the mainstream with the song "Smells Like Teen Spirit" labeling them the flagship band of Generation X. Though praised as the leader of a whole Generation of teens Cobain was uncomfortable with the idea and pressure that came from it. During the last years of his life, Cobain struggled with heroin addiction stemming from chronic health problems and depression. This building with his difficulties coping with fame and public image became too much and Cobain took his life by a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head.
