OriginEdit

Joseph Vacher (1869 - 1898) was a French serial killer who killed eleven to twenty seven people. Due to the severeness of his murders the public dubbed him the South-East or French Ripper. His scarred face, accordion and plain, white, handmade rabbit-fur hat was a trademark of his. His targets were mostly adolescent farm workers, orphans who would be hard to miss. When arrested Vacher attempted to get a reduced sentence by claiming insanity from a rabid dog bite. Despite further insane pleas the courts found him sane and sentenced him to death by guillotine.
