Biography[]
Jūbei Futaba (Futaba Jūbei, 二葉 重兵衛) (TBA-TBA) was a shinobi (or ninja) of Edo-period Japan who worked for Sendai Domain daimyō Yoshimura Date.
Yoshimura had inherited a domain that had suffered financial troubles as a result of the ambitious construction projects of his predecessor; in addition, as a tozama daimyō, Yoshimura was of a much lower rank than other daimyōs of the time and was heavily looked down upon and discriminated against.
Around October of 1724, Yoshimura charged Futaba with the task of sneaking out of Japan and retrieving Sun Tzu's Reins, which had last belonged to former shōgun and Great Unifier, Ieyasu Tokugawa before they were collected by agents of Warehouse 10. He hoped that the retrieval of the reins might help improve his social standing, and perhaps help in improving his domain's fiscal situation. Leaving Japan was no easy feat, however, as Japan had been under draconian policies that strictly limited Japan's contact with the outside world implemented by shōgun Iemitsu Tokugawa (Ieyasu's grandson) since the 1630s: foreigners and locals alike were punished with death of they entered or left the country, even unintentionally.
Having successfully escaped Japan, Futaba was soon captured by Warehouse 10 agents Nandita Bachchan and Suniti Bhattacharya, and was to be Bronzed as punishment. In exchange for his freedom, Futaba offered his assistance in getting the agents inside Japan so as to collect artifacts they had otherwise been incapable of collecting for the past century. The agents accepted his offer.
