Origin[edit | edit source]

Heuristically programmed algorithmic computer, or HAL 9000 for short, is the sentient computer system of the Discovery One spacecraft in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey. HAL is the automated systems of a mission to Jupiter after the discovery of a mysterious black monolith that affects human evolution. Directed by Stanley Kubrick, it was initially met with mixed reviews but later received accolades for being one of the great films.

Effects[edit | edit source]

When placed near a computer, the computer will become corrupted. If the computer is fixed, they become self-operating and automating systems, letting them make decisions independent of human input
