Herman Webster Mudgett (1861 - 1896) better known as Dr. Henry Howard Holmes was the first American Serial Killer of the 19th century. Upon his capture he confessed to twenty seven victims, while only nine could be confirmed. Holmes' committed his murder in a Warehouse he converted into a hotel. Along with being a serial killer he was a con artist, bigamist and arsonist.

Those who stay in the rooms turn murderous or commit suicide. Those who killed themselves are found in ways victims appeared in other crimes. I.E. A man was discovered with his head beaten in by a baseball bat in the style of the Cheshire Murders.
