Girolamo Savonarola was a Dominican friar who through his preaching was able to gain supporters in the City of Florence and expelled the Medici family who was ruling Florence at the time. He often organized Bonfires of the Vanities during his sermons where works of art, mirrors, musical insturments, etc were deemed sinful and burned. During the Italian War of 1494 -1498, he refused to join the Holy League against the French. This angered the Pope, who later excomunicatde him and later charged him with heresy. He was executed by hanging in 1498 along with two other friars in on the Piazza de la Signoria in Florence, Their body was burned not soon after and the ashes was scaterred to the Arno.

After his execution someone who collected the ashes of the friars scavenged the crucifix, which he later sold to a merchant. Later a soldier purchased the crucifix and went to war. The soldier was killed and was looted by a French Soldier during the Italian war of 1494-1498.
War of the League of Cambrai: 1511[]
The crucifix remained in the possesion of the French soldier until the War of the League of Cambrai. During which the French soldier was killed during battle. His body was looted after the battle by a Warehouse Agent posing as a Soldier of the Holy Roman Empire.

The Crucifix remained in the care of the Warehouse and currently stored in the Fire/Melting/Burning section and far away from the Art Gallery.
