Origin[]
Walter Frederick "Fred" Morrison (1920 - 2010) was an American inventor and entrepreneur, best known for inventing the Frisbee. Morrison claimed that the original idea for a flying disc toy came to him in 1937, while throwing a cake tin with his girlfriend on the beach. They were just having a good time however someone asked to purchase it from them and they decided to sell Flyin' Cake Pans on the beaches of Santa Monica, California. Turning World War II he enlisted and flew in Italy. He was shot down and was a prisoner of war for forty eight days. During this time the only company he had was the stray dogs that came in and out of the camp looking for scraps. In the cage he would toss the plate that they fed him on to the dogs and eventually they returned the plate and would play with him as much as they could. Morrison eventually told his friends back home that it had kept his morale up and in turn, saved his life. Returning home he crafted the Frisbee, after a few failed attempted, called the Pluto Platter as he had nicknamed one of the strays Pluto even though it was marketed after the planet.
