Origin[]
The U.S.S Indianapolis (CL/CA-35) also dubbed " Indy, " was a Portland-classed heavy cruiser that successfully delivered key components of the first nuclear weapon ever used in battle " The Little Boy. " Subsequently of the delivery, the vessel departed to the Philippines and was struck by a Japanese B3 submarine " I-58. " The vessel sunk in 12 minutes, and 300 crewmen went down with the ship; the remaining 890 faced the appalling conditions of the open Philippine Sea. The remaining 890 souls were isolated in the open ocean for three and a half days, until a PBY named " Catalina, " rescued the remaining crewman. Out of the 890 that survived the sinking, only 317 survived.
This life preserver was worn by the captain of the U.S.S Indianapolis, Charles Butler McVay III. The horror and dismay the captain witnessed and endured is believed to be amalgamated into the life preserver.
Effects[]
When the life preserver is worn, the victim plunges into a sea consisting of oil, blood, corpses, and phantom like sharks. The phantom sharks are various kinds of species of sharks, such as tiger sharks, oceanic white-tips, black-tips, blues, and makos; the same species of shark reported by survivors after the U.S.S Indianapolis sank. The phantom sharks are immensely aggressive toward the victim, and will attack the victim; the victim will feel as if they have been actually bitten by a shark when attacked. The wearer will also hear haunting screams of the U.S.S Indianapolis's crewmen while undergoing the effect of the life preserver.
