Origin[]

Meleager was the son of Althaea and the vintner Oeneus and, according to some accounts father of Parthenopeus and Polydora. When Meleager was born, the Fates predicted he would only live until a stick, burning in the family hearth, was consumed by fire. Overhearing them, Althaea immediately doused and hid the stick.

In an violent argument with his brother, Meleager killed him and his uncle. Upon finding out, Althaea burned the stick, causing Meleager to die.

Effects[]

Igniting the wood while thinking of a person ties that person's existence to it, so that the person is effectively immortal unless the stick is either destroyed or set on fire again, which promptly kills them. The initial burning will not consume any of the wood, but the secondary will. After the person has died, the stick will reform from the ashes.

Their temper will also increase, to the point where they will be tempted to commit murder after being insulted

Collection[]

Collected by the Warehouse during its Roman incarnation.
