Origin
In the 1950s, it was a common form of entertainment to observe the explosions from the Nellis Air Force Gunnery and Bombing range near Las Vegas whilst one played their games. Before the effects of nuclear radiation became apparent, spectators came from miles around to watch the test bombs explode into massive mushroom clouds from what was assumed to be a safe distance.
Effects
Taking in the spectacle of the explosions, the danger of the radiation and the general unluck atmosphere of Las Vegas, this deck of cards became imbued with lethal amounts of nuclear radiation. However the effects do not become apparent until the cards are flipped face up, face down cards are harmless. The more cards that are turned face up, the wider the range of the radioactive field.
The two jokers in the deck do not share these properties, perhaps due to them being left out of the game. In fact, holding one will protect the holder from the fallout zone.
