Tempting fate

Possibly the most dangerous artifact.

Edward Murphy's Air Force Major insignia. Created by his dislike of the commonplace Murphy's Law interpretation.

When a person tempts fate, for example by saying "What else could go wrong? or a similar item on the Forbidden Phrases List, this artifact reacts by activating Finagle's corollary to Murphy's Law, which states "Anything that can go wrong, will - at the worst possible moment."

This can result in anything from a simple rainstorm to a catastrophic building collapse.

List of Forbidden PhrasesEdit

All of these phrases have a chance of activating the artifact. Please note that this list is incomplete, and that the artifact does not discriminate between languages.

  1. "Nothing bad will come of this."
  2. "What could possibly go wrong?"
  3. "How could it get any worse." (the last word is optional)
  4. "This'll only take a second."
  5. "We're going to be okay."
  6. "I've got a bad feeling about this."
  7. "It's quiet. Too quiet."
  8. "Relax, it's just a routine operation."
  9. "I'll be back soon. Trust me."
  10. "Calm down, will you, everything is going to be fine."
  11. "... Is it gone?"
  12. "Nothing can stop us now!"
  13. "The worst that could happen is somebody dying, but what are the chances of that?"
  14. "Trust me, I'm a professional."
  15. "We always win!"
  16. "We're in the clear!"
  17. "At least it isn't..." or "At least it didn't..."
  18. "I will! (only when in response to "Be careful!")"

  • Due to how often the average person tempts fate, it is stored in a Neutralizer soaked display box.
  • Attempts to trick the artifact into being benefical never work.
