OriginEdit

Dwight. D Eisenhower was 34th president of the United States from 1953 until 1961. His time in office oversaw the Korean War, increased spending on the nuclear arms race with the Soviet Union and CIA backed political coups in Iran and Guatemala. His second term saw the arrival of Sputnik, NASA and the Space Race. He held back on intervening in communist controlled countries and had relations fall through with the Soviet Union due to the U-2 spy plane incident. Domestic charges mostly fell to vice president Richard Nixon, except for the public mocking of McCarthyism. Eisenhower pushed for reforms such as the interstate highway system and educational reform. His farewell address warned the country to beware of the growing power of the “military-industrial complex”.

And before all his political engagement, Eisenhower was a five star general in the United States Army during World War II. He served as Supreme Commander of the Allied forces in Europe and was responsible for supervising Operation Torch in North Africa and the D-Day invasion of Normandy in France.
