Ubisoft: 2007[edit | edit source]

Spinning off from the 'Prince of Persia' series into it's own IP, the 'Assassin's Creed' franchise is one of Ubisoft's staple franchises. While the game currently spans over 20 main series and other games, one of the most notable concepts of the series is the 'Genetic Memory' aspect that let the player (and in turn the main character, Desmond Miles) to investigate and live the lives of his ancestors.

From the first game up through the fifth game in the franchise, Assassin's Creed III, when not in the device that allows for his re-enacting of genetic memories, the player controls Desmond Miles, an ex-Assassin who ran away from that life, only to be forced back in due to his genetics.

Over the games, Desmond suffers the side-effects of delving into his ancestor's genetic memories, the Bleeding Effect, which allowed him to learn skills that his ancestors all had before him: freerunning, combat, and firearm training. By 'Assassin's Creed: III', Desmond had mastered these and the player was controlling him in the real world for portions of the game.

Due to Ubisoft's massive push for merchandising for the franchise, many different styles of clothing were made for the line, several referring to Desmond's outfit. Between the love that the franchise had in it's earlier years and the mass merchandising, one of the hoodies that Ubisoft produced was imbued with Desmond's skills post Bleeding Effect.
