Repair, reuse, make do and don't throw anything away was a motto that most people took to heart especially during the Great Depression. Very few farm families had enough money to buy clothes. When farmers bought large sacks of flour and livestock feed or mothers bought pillowcases the empty sacks were put to good use as seamstresses could make dresses out of them. Once store owners noticed this they started to design the sacks with designs that would work well as dresses. This one pillowcase imbued the charity of those who went out of their way to help their neighbors.
