Origin[]
David Livingstone (1813 - 1873) was a Scottish Congregationalist pioneer medical missionary with the London Missionary Society and an explorer of Africa. A protestant missionary martyr, working class 'rag-to-riches' inspirational story, scientific investigator and explorer, imperial reformer, anti-slavery crusader and advocate of commercial and colonial expansion. His most famed exploration, and main obsession, with discovering the sources of the River Nile. Livingstone's belief was that if he could solve the age-old mystery would grant him with enough fame that he would be able to influence the end of the East African Arab-Swahili slave trade. Eventually he discovered the beginning of the Nile however it didn't grant him the fame level to stop the slavery. There was a period of time where Livingstone went missing and when he did appear again he refused to explain where he was.
