OriginEdit

Charles Perrault (1628 - 1703) was a French author and member of the French Academy. He laid the foundations for a new literary genre, the fairy tale, with his works derived from pre-existing folk tales. The boots are from his work called 'Hop-o'-My-Thumb' also known as Tom Thumb. The basis of the story is that Tom Thumb is the youngest of seven children in a poor woodcutter's family. His greater wisdom compensates for his small size. After the children are abandoned by their parents and were discovered by an ogre. While the monster was sleeping Tom steals the beast's seven-league boots in order to gain fame and enough fortune to save his family from poverty.
