Origins[]
Cesar Chavez was a farm worker, labor leader and activist who helped cofound the United Farm Workers Union. A Mexican-American, he fought for rights of Latino Americans and farm workers alike. He helped the farm workers gain support of the public by his strong but nonviolent approach to unionism. His union gained many members during the 1970s, but dwindled during the 80s.
