Origin

Cerberus (Greek Kérberos) is the three headed guard dog of the Underworld, whose job was to prevent souls, be they living or dead, from leaving.

Effects

When passing into the Underworld proper, there is only the feeling of being watched. For those attempting to leave however, there is a barrier similar in strength to that generated by the Remati Shackle that will either simply prevent passage, or knock a potential escapee back, depending on how fast they are going.

This effect can be neutralized by using a gold coin emblazoned with the symbol of Hades on it (these coins are generally returned via Charon’s Ferry as payment for passage. The most notable example of this is in the escape of Sisyphus. While successful, he was eventually caught and forcibly dragged before the High Warden and sentenced to his famed punishment).

Examination of the few of these coins in the Warehouse’s protection reveals that the coins, or obols, have no artifact energy themselves. Instead, they seem to resonate ever so slightly at a frequency the archway reacts to in a manner that negates the barrier.

Collection

Not Applicable. At last recorded sighting, the archway remains in the Hades Caverns.

Known History and Appearance

From the few surviving records of the Warehouse's last interaction with the Hades Caverns, this Archway was created in honor of the original Cerberus, who was a three-headed guard dog. While not much is known about the dog itself, the Archway is known to have both a detailed carving of the dog as well as a bronze plaque in his honor.

Upon entering the cave, the arch appears fairly normal, with no distinguishing features. Only upon going to leave can one see the details of the arch.

Although the specifics of how it was made are unclear, the arch itself is not an artifact. It was likely made, however, with artifacts.
