Origin[]
Marcus Junius Brutus the Younger, more commonly referred to as Brutus, was a Roman politician who played a critical role in the assassination of Julius Caesar. As one of his closest friends, Caesar trusted Brutus with many of his affairs. It did not extend both ways however; Brutus believed Caesar’s ever increasing rise to power would spell the end of the Roman Empire. Reluctantly, he joined a group of twenty-two other senators.
Brutus convinced Caesar to leave the Senate and the other senators stabbed Caesar to death, where he was completely surprised by Brutus’s betrayal. The group then fled but was later overwhelmed by the military forces led by Mark Anthony. Brutus committed suicide by running on his sword and Anthony ordered an honorable burial for having acted in the benefit of Rome.
