Origin[edit | edit source]
Barthelemy de Chasseneuz (1480 - 1541) was a French jurist who would have been one of the greatest lawyers until he brought for a case before a judge defending a group of rats on trial for destroying the barley crop of the province. In this odd display of courtroom behavior he actually won his case.
