Origin[]
Francois Auguste Rene Rodin (1840 - 1917) was a French sculptor considered to be the progenitor of modern sculpture. However he didn't seek out this, not wanting to rebel against the past. Schooled traditionally he took a craftsman-like approach to his work, desiring academic recognition. Sculpturally, Rodin possessed a unique ability to model a complex, turbulent, deeply pocketed surface in clay. As most sculptures were traditional Rodin's were decorative, formulaic or highly thematic. Rodin's most original work departed from traditional themes of mythology and allegory, modeled the human body with realism and celebrated individual character and physicality. Despite controversy he refused to change his style.
Effects[]
Striking organic material turns it into clay. The transformation penetrates all layers of cells, turning the host earthen to the core.
