Arthur Conan Doyle (1859 - 1930) was an Irish-Scottish writer and physician, most noted for creating the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes and writing stories about him which are generally considered millstones in the field of crime fiction. Although his most popular character Doyle found Holmes to be a trying character to write and often considered killing the character off. Public outcry prevented him from doing it as the Holmes series of books could always be known to bring him in money.
