Origin[]
As a virgin goddess, Artemis had interested many gods and men, however only her hunting companion Orion won her heart. When Orion was killed Artemis closed off her heart and focused herself solely on the hunt. Artemis often punished hunters who attempted to boast that they were better hunters than the goddess. As punishment Artemis calmed the winds so that Agamemnon, the hunter who killed a sacred stag in a sacred grove, couldn't set sail to Troy to aid in his side of the Trojan War. To appease her Agamemnon was going to sacrifice his daughter to Artemis, instead of letting her die Artemis took the girl to become her immortal companion.
