Origin[]
Howard Stanton Levey (1930 - 1997) was an American author, musician and occultist who eventually took the stage name Anton LeVey. He was the founder of the Church of Satan and the religion of LeVeyan Satanism. During his time as the leader of his church he released several books and three albums on the subject of Satanism. Born in Chicago, Illinois to a Russian father and Ukrainian mother they became naturalized American citizens in 1900. The Levay family then moved to the Bay Area in California where his parents who held no religious identification supported Anton's love of music. Throughout college he looked into Christianity and the church but left it saying that the church had too many double-standards for his liking. When he was sixteen Anton left high school to join several circuses and carnivals where he honed his natural showmanship which would greatly aid him when it came to drawing in followers after he created the Church of Satan.
