Origin[]
Anne Greene (1628 – 1665) was an English domestic servant who was accused of committing infanticide in 1650, due to her crime she was hung. Greene was brought into the household of Sir Thomas Reade as a scullery maid. She was raped by her master's grandson and gave birth to a child. Greene alleged, and later was confirmed with medical evidence, that the baby was a stillborn however she was still sentenced to death. After being hung and declared dead by the prison doctor her body was given to medical students for dissection and study. A day later as the students prepped her body they were amazed to discover that Greene was still breathing with a weak pulse. Rushing to her aid and using several techniques she recovered fully. Returning before the King her survival was declared an act of God and she was granted a full pardon.
