Andreas Mihavecz was an 18-year-old bricklayer's apprentice when he was put in police custody April 1, 1979 for being a passenger in a car crash. The three police officers in charge forgot about him and ignored his mother’s pleas. Losing 53 pounds during his accidental stay. 18 days later, he was discovered and released; it took several weeks to regain his strength. He inadvertently received the Guinness World Record for longest time surviving without food or water.
